Bible Story: God Made the World

Bible Text: Genesis 1:1-8, 14-19

Story Truth(s):

  • The God of the Bible is the Creator of all things.
  • Nothing and no one is more powerful than the God of the Bible.
  • The God of the Bible is the only true God.
  • The God of the Bible is worthy of our love, our loyalty, our worship, and our commitment.

Story: A long, long time ago, before there was anything, there was God. The Bible says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). At first the world was empty and dark. There were no trees, animals, or people. God began to bring order to the world by speaking. God said, “Let there be light!” and there was light. God said the light was good. Now there was darkness and there was light.

God named the light day, and He named the darkness night. God made a space between the earth below and the heavens above. He called the place above the earth the sky.

Later God said, “Let there be lights in the sky to separate the day time from the night time.” So God made two great lights. The brightest light was the sun, and it would shine during the day. The smaller light was the moon and it, along with the stars, would give light to the earth at night.

God looked at what He had made and saw that it was good.
