Asking Strategic Questions

Frequently the majority of the questions we ask call for a yes or no answer, or a one word answer. Enhance your conversations with questions that lead to deeper thinking and problem solving. Strategic questions keep conversations going, and they usually highlight vitally important elements like relationships with other people and with God. Here are some examples of strategic questions.

  • How do you think the character of this Bible story felt as he or she faced this decision?
  • Whom would you have asked for help if you had been this character?
  • Why do you think this character made a right (or wrong) decision?
  • How do you think it will work out?
  • How might you have felt if you had been (name a different character in the story)?
  • What would you have done to help the main character?
  • How do you think God viewed the actions of this character?
  • What would have happened if this individual had made a different decision?
