Lesson Description
All of the New Testament books are divinely inspired. One of those written by the apostle John is the letter we know as 1 John. John wrote to assure believers of their salvation and to warn them about false teachers. There was a group of teachers who did not believe Jesus Christ actually had come to this earth in the flesh. Their teachings were infiltrating churches at the time, and John knew he needed to refute their claims.
“God is love,” John wrote, and He showed that love by sending His Son Jesus to die for humanity’s sins. John knew Jesus personally; he talked with Him and walked with Him during His ministry. Had Jesus not come in the flesh, not died, and not been resurrected, salvation would not be possible. We would all be forever separated from God. We can thank God for sending Jesus, and we also can thank Him for using John to write these important truths about Jesus and about the Christian faith in 1 John.
