Hooked on Showing God’s Love to Younger Children

Melody and her husband, John, have two teenage boys. When her boys were young, she started volunteering in children’s ministry with her former church’s Vacation Bible School. She became hooked on the importance of showing God’s love to younger children.

As her own kids became older, they moved to a bigger church that had more opportunities for their children to grow deeper spiritually. She became passionate about teaching older elementary children at Blue Grass Church, where she was eventually asked to join the children’s ministry staff in 2011. After a few months on staff, she realized that pre-teens in her church were dwindling in their ministry and wanted to find a way to keep tweens more engaged. She started a preteen ministry in 2012 called Club 456, which involves all 4th through 6th graders. The preteen age group has since seen tremendous growth due to tweens staying involved through fun activities, mission work and attending annual pre-teen conferences.

Melody Pfeffer and her husband currently teach 4th -6th graders at Blue Grass Church and love being with the preteens every Sunday morning. ‘It’s a way to really connect with the kids. They see us every week. We are there for them as mentors, friends, and as guides for their spiritual future.’
