Big Love Bible Craft

Bible Story: Valentines’ Day- Big Love

Bible Text: Matthew 22: 36-40

Suggested Learning Outcome: This mural craft will help children understand the type of love that God wants from us. God does not want small, weak love, but big love, that reaches out like the branches of a mighty tree, blessing all of those around us.

Supplies List:

  • Brown, green, red and blue construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tape

Teacher Preparation: Pre-cut several thin strips of red construction paper about 8 strips per student.

Instructions:

Step 1. Give students the strips of red construction paper and guide then in folding the strips in half, and then folding and taping the tops together to form hearts (see image). Set the hearts to the side.

Step 2. Give students a piece of brown construction paper and guide them in tracing their hand and part of their wrist and arm. Assist children with cutting out the tracing (see image).

Step 3. Now give students a piece of blue and green construction paper and guide them in cutting wavy green grass and gluing it to the blue sheet (see image).

Step 4. Students can now take their hand print tree trunk, glue it to the green grass and begin using the heart shapes to create the top of this Big Love tree (see image).
