Coded Words for The People Honored Jesus

Coded Words for The People Honored Jesus

Palm Sunday is the Sunday we celebrate Jesus’ “Triumphal Entry” into Jerusalem. As Jesus rode into the city on the Sunday before His crucifixion, the people honored Jesus and shouted, “Hosanna! He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One — the King of Israel” (John 12:13b). “Hosanna” had come to mean, “God is saving!” This beautiful shout of praise meant that Jesus was the Messiah, the king they had been waiting on! But Jesus wasn’t coming as the kind of king they were expecting. They wanted a military and political leader who would defeat the Romans. But Jesus was not coming to overthrow the Roman occupation and oppression. Jesus came to break the power of sin and evil over all of humanity through His sacrificial death on the cross a few days later. This Coded Words for The People Honored Jesus activity will help kids understand that Jesus is the King, but He’s not like other kings in the world.
