Bible Story: God Answered Hannah’s Prayer
Bible Text: 1 Samuel 1:1-20
- Paper plates ( 1 per student)
- Small felt squares (1 per student)
- Cotton balls (1 per student)
Teacher Preparation: Pre-cut medium sized circles from cardstock, small felt squares, and strips of yarn for Hannah’s hair.
Step 1. Give students a paper plate and instruct them to fold the top of the plate so that it creates a point at the top. Instruct students to carefully trim off this point.
Step 2. Instruct students to fold their plate closed and color the plate so you see Hannah’s robe, arms, and praying hands. Give students the circle and instruct them to color this as Hannah’s face, gluing the yarn to the top for her hair. When done this circle should be glued or taped to the top back of the paper plate. When the plate is closed you will see Hannah praying for a child.
Step 3. Kids can now open the plate and color the inside to resemble Hannah’s robe and arms again, but this time making room for a baby adding the words to the sides “Prayer Works.”
Step 4. Give children a felt square and a cotton ball. Wrap the cotton ball in the felt square like a baby in a blanket and secure with a dab of glue. Open up the paper plate and glue the baby into Hannah’s open arms. When the plate is closed Hannah is praying for her baby. When the plate is open, God has answered her prayers.
