He Is Risen Story Snack Activity

This He Is Risen Story Snack activity will provide children with edible visuals to enjoy while listening to the resurrection story. Each snack in the activity represents a different aspect of the Easter story. Use the snacks to make the Resurrection story more interactive. Children don’t have difficulty believing that Jesus was raised from the dead, which is the most important lesson of this story. This activity will underscore the facts and significance of the varying elements of the resurrection story.

Bible Story: The Resurrection

Bible Text: Matthew 28:1-10

Suggested Learning Outcome: This activity will help kids learn about key elements of the resurrection story and associate them with a tasty snack.

Supplies List:

  • Jumbo plastic Easter eggs
  • Small pretzel sticks (at least two per egg)
  • Mini-cookies
  • Red jellybeans
  • Goldfish crackers
  • White jellybeans

Instructions:

Step 1. Before class, pack each plastic egg with 2 pretzel sticks, 1 mini-cookie, 1 or 2 red jellybeans, 2-3 Goldfish crackers, 1 or 2 white jellybeans.

Step 2. As you talk about the events of the resurrection, explain that the snacks represent the following aspects of the resurrection story.

  • Pretzels can be made into a cross to represent the crucifixion.
  • Red jellybeans represent the blood that Jesus shed on the cross.
  • The mini-cookie symbolizes the stone of the tomb that was rolled away when Jesus came out of the tomb.
  • The white jellybeans represent our souls made white when our sins are washed away.
  • Goldfish crackers represent our calling to be fishers of men.
