Puppets For Samuel Followed God

In 1 Samuel 8:1-9 and 10:1&9, we read a significant story about the time when the elders in Israel complained to Samuel and asked that they be given a king. This was during the time when Israel was a loose confederation of tribes. God gave them “Judges” when they were needed, but there was no king. The request for a king made both God and Samuel unhappy, but God told Samuel to do as they had requested. God then led Samuel to a man named Saul and instructed Samuel to anoint him as the new king. This began Israel’s long and often sinful monarchy. This Puppets for Samuel Followed God activity will help children understand that God often does things we don’t fully understand or even like, but we are to follow God’s direction, even when we don’t want to do so.
