A Room for Elisha

Elisha was an Old Testament prophet for God's people. He followed Elijah, another miracle-working prophet, and took Elijah’s place as a leader when Elijah was taken up to Heaven, by God. Elisha was greatly used by God to teach the Hebrew people many things, performing twice the amount of miracles than his predecessor. Prophets in the Old Testament often depended on the generosity of others to survive, while they ministered and spoke for the Lord; so, at one point, Elisha found refuge in the home of a gracious couple. This Bible story called "A Room for Elisha" shows how God cared for the needs of His servant Elisha, through a Shunamite couple. Elisha showed his gratitude for their generosity by performing a miracle for the childless wife, and she later gave birth to a son. The entire story is found in 2 Kings 4:8-13 and, along with the activities found below, can help teach children concepts such as generosity, service, and gratitude, as well as the blessings one may receive for practicing these virtues. All of these qualities demonstrate sacrificial love in our lives. It is this kind of love that is the core characteristic of a person who loves Jesus and seeks to follow Him.
