Fear Not… Finding Comfort in the Chaos

Confused. Anxious. Disoriented. Conflicted. Frightened. Angry. These are not usually the emotions that are front and center for me at the dawning of springtime. It is truly my favorite time of year. But this year… this year… is just something else. Can you relate?

I spend a good chunk of winter emotionally trudging toward springtime. I dream of flowers, and sun, and the special shade of green which only newly sprouted leaves carry. And it all came. It even came earlier than I had expected. The sun warmed up. The days stretched out. The leaves and flowers arrived in all of their magnificence. And yet, all of this has been overshadowed by what some are calling “The Invisible Enemy.”

Battling Anxiety

For someone who has battled with anxiety for the past 6 years, these are beyond unsettling times for me personally. I feel pretty confident in saying that every person in America, and most of the rest of the world for that matter, are all feeling much the same. Whether you have ever dealt with anxiety or not, I dare say, we’ve all be dabbling in the same anxious waters for at least the last month.

What then? Do we fix our eyes upon the monster of anxiety and circumstances and let it eat us up as we stand frozen in our boots? Do we give in to the fear and uncertainty while we spiral downward emotionally?

That would likely be the outcome for most of us, if we were in this battle alone. If we had awakened in the middle of March, 2020 with only our frail human intellect and courage, we would have buried ourselves in a toilet paper fort by now and given up.

Fear Not; I will Help Thee

But, you see we did NOT wake up in the middle of March, 2020 alone. Isaiah 41:13 says, “For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.”

This was the truth before March and this is the truth right at this very moment. Right now, in the context of what each of us are experiencing right this moment, this is the truth.

Your God, the Creator of the Universe, stands by your side. He is holding your right hand.

Visualize this with me. It’s important. If God is holding your right hand, He is holding it with His left hand. Can you visualize that? So, if God is using His left hand to hold you, what is He doing with His right hand?

Isaiah 48:13 reveals, “Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.”

Exodus 15:6 explains, “Thy right hand, O Lord, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O Lord, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.”

Psalms 118:15-16 underscores this reality… “The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly. The right hand of the Lord is exalted: the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly.”

And for You???

The hand that spanned the heavens, is dashing the enemy for you. The hand that hung the stars is working valiantly on your behalf. The hand that took the nail is exalted right now in power and glory.

All the while God is fighting for us with His right hand, He is holding us with His left. As He holds us He whispers, “Fear not. I will help thee.”

Can you hear Him?

Can you hear those words?

I did not ask if you can see them on the screen, or even if you can see them in your Bible. Can you hear those words being spoken to you personally?

If not, then I encourage you to get alone today with God and stay there as long as it takes to hear these words. Stay until you hear these words so plain and clear that every part of you can rest in this truth.

“Fear not. I will help thee.”
