Lesson Description
After Lydia and the members of her household became Christians, Paul, Silas, and their helpers continued to share the good news about Jesus in Philippi. Many people listened as Paul taught, but some were angry with Paul and Silas. They grabbed them and took them to the rulers of the city. They accused them of disrupting order in the city. The leaders had Paul and Silas beaten and put in jail. The jail keeper put their feet in stocks. Also, close by, a guard kept watch.
That night, even though they were in jail, the two men of God prayed and sang songs to God! Suddenly, a great earthquake shook the jail! It was so strong it rocked the foundation of the jail. Right away the doors opened and everyone’s chains came loose! The jailer was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped, but none had. Paul reassured the jailer, who became a believer that night. The jailer took Paul and Silas to his home and treated them with kindness. The members of the his household were so impressed that they, too, became Christians. When Paul and his friends left the city of Philippi, they traveled to other cities to tell everyone they could about Jesus.
