Standing on the shore, Jesus saw His disciples out in the middle of the sea being tossed back and forth by angry waves. Around 3 a.m. He began walking on surface of the lake toward His disciples. The disciples saw Someone coming toward them, but they did not recognize Jesus. They were terrified, but Jesus reassured them: “Have courage! It is I. Do not be afraid!” (Mark 6:50). With the words, “It is I,” which literally means “I am,” Jesus identified Himself as the God of Moses (see Ex. 3:14). As Jesus spoke those words and boarded the boat, the winds calmed, along with the men’s fears. The disciples were amazed. Despite all they didn’t realize, they worshiped Jesus and affirmed He was God’s Son (see Matt. 14:33). We, too, can learn from their amazing experience. This Jesus Walked on Water Bible lesson for older preschoolers reaffirms that Jesus was not an ordinary man. Because Jesus was God’s Son, He could do amazing things.
