Lesson Description
On his second missionary journey, Paul saw and heard a Macedonian man asking him and his team to come and help them. Responding to this call for help, they sailed over the Aegean Sea to the port city of Neapolis. Then they walked for about 10 miles to Philippi, where they stayed for a while. When the special day of the week for worshiping God arrived, Paul and his friends found a group of women who were worshiping God and praying. They joined the group, and Paul spoke to the women about Jesus. One of them, a woman named Lydia, sold an expensive kind of material called purple cloth to earn a living. She knew about God but she had not heard about Jesus. God helped Lydia pay close attention to Paul’s words. After Paul spoke, Lydia asked if she could become a follower of Jesus. Right away she believed Jesus died for her and trusted Him to forgive her of her sins. Her family members believed in Jesus, too. All of them were baptized. Then Lydia invited Paul and his helpers to stay in her home. Jesus, through the work of the Holy Spirit, was helping the church to grow.
