Lesson Description
Around the time of Jesus’ birth, a band of scholars from a far-away country were on their way to pay homage to Jesus. These “wise men,” as they were called, were guided by a star. They made their way to Jerusalem where they inquired where the king of the Jews was to be born, and they learned from Herod’s scribes and scholars that Bethlehem was the place. Herod was jealous and wanted to kill the child, but he pretended to want to worship Him. He asked the wise men to find the child and report back to him so he could worship Him too. When the wise men found Jesus, they worshiped Him and gave him gifts. Then, directed by God, they bypassed Herod on the way back home. The wise men’s experience is full of interesting facts and insight for us today as we study the arrival of God’s Son on the earth.
