Madalyn Allen on The Sunday School Zone Blog

Madalyn Allen has been serving in different capacities in children’s ministry for more than 15 years. As a “preacher’s kid,” Madalyn jokes that she was “bred for ministry.” From cradling babies in the nursery to dancing with teenagers in the youth ministry, Allen has done it all. She credits her “staying power” in children’s ministry to the few teachers she had as a child who “stayed” with her. “We only had a few volunteers, but they were always there for us, and they came back every Sunday.”

Beyond Sunday

Madalyn’s ministry doesn’t end on Sunday afternoon.  She continues her work with children throughout the week as an English Language Learning teacher. Her role enables her to work with children of all ages, helping them to overcome the language barriers that stand between them and academic achievement in the classroom. Madalyn believes that working with children for a living further equips her for service to children on Sunday. “I can really relate to them because I understand not only their unique age group needs, but also the pressures they endure since I work in the midst of them everyday.

In addition to her various ministries to children, Madalyn and her husband have taken on the labor-intensive task of homeschooling their own children. “John and I weighed the pros and cons, agreed on some necessary sacrifices, and haven’t looked back since. We both love the Bible and education and thought we’d be best suited to give our children the Christ-centered education we believe they should have.” Madalyn has a Bachelor’s degree in English Education and a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language. She resides in Jackson, Mississippi with her husband and four children.
