Lesson Description
What is greatness? Jesus’ disciples thought that truly great people had power, influence, and a large number of servants. But Jesus taught that those characterized by genuine greatness serve others! In fact, Jesus Himself demonstrated authentic greatness in the upper room on the night of the Passover meal when He took on the role of a slave, took up a towel, and washed His disciples’ feet. The disciples didn’t fully understand all Jesus was trying to convey to them when He washed their feet, but over time they finally did “get it.” We also need to hear and heed Jesus’ words, and we need to help the youngest among us, our preschoolers, understand them as well. Let take to heart what Jesus said to His disciples on that night: “I have given you an example that you also should do just as I have done for you” (John 13:15). Do you have a towel in your hand?
