The Parable of the Good Samaritan Bible Lesson for Children
This is a Bible lesson about Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan. It is one of several lessons covering some of the parables of Jesus and certainly is one of Jesus’ most familiar parables. This lesson on the popular parable of the Good Samaritan can help kids understand that God considers all people worthy of our love, no matter how different they may be from us.

Bible Text: Luke 10:25-37
Learning Objective: To help the children understand that we are to demonstrate love and care to all people, regardless of their religious or ethnic background.
The Lead
Choose a free, printable activity from the list of related Bible activities on the parable of the Good Samaritan that will be good to open the lesson. As children complete the activity, explain that today’s lesson is one of many parables or stories that Jesus told and is about caring for other people. Use the chosen activity to introduce the parable.
Read the story from the Bible or invite a child to read the story aloud. Depending on the age and maturity of your kids, you may want simply to tell the story in your own words.
The Lesson
Select an appropriate number of printable activities from the list of related Bible activities on the parable of the Good Samaritan and use them to engage your kids in the story. As they work on the activities, emphasize the following truths:
- God loves all people, regardless of their religious or racial background.
- God expects us to demonstrate love to all people, now matter how different from us they may be.
- The Jews of Jesus’ day believed that only other Jews could be “neighbors.” Further, they didn’t like the Samaritans. He told this parable to demonstrate that acting like a neighbor is not exclusive to Jewish people. This Samaritan was a better neighbor to the poor man than the Jews who ignored him. (This concept may be more appropriate for older kids.)

Help the children understand that while it’s easy to love and care for people like us, God wants us to show love to all people, regardless of how different they may be.
