God’s People in Egypt Pyramid Craft

God's People in Egypt Pyramid Craft

This God’s People in Egypt Pyramid Craft will support lessons related to the story of how God’s people (the Israelites) were enslaved in Egypt for a season. In Exodus 1, we learn about Joseph’s death and what happened next. The Egyptian leaders forgot all that Joseph had done for them, and made the Hebrew people slaves because they feared their growing numbers. The lives of the Israelite people became bitter and hard. This story will help kids see that God has a plan in spite of harsh circumstances and is always with us. Children will learn that while Israel’s slavery was real, it is also a picture of the slavery to sin all people experience.

Bible Story: God’s People Enslaved in Egypt

Bible Text: Exodus 1:5-14

Suggested Learning Outcome: This simple, fun, paper craft is a great addition to any lesson on God’s People Enslaved in Egypt. This craft will help children associate the Egyptian slavery of the Hebrews with the structures they helped build in ancient Egypt.

Supplies List:

  • Construction paper – 1 sheet per child
  • Glue sticks
  • Large construction paper triangles
  • Cotton balls
  • Crayons or markers

Instructions:

Step 1. Before class, cut large construction paper triangles, 1 per child. Cut the triangles into even strips. Keep each set of strips separate so each student can reconstruct the pyramid in class.

Step 2. Discuss how the Hebrews were used as slaves and while they were enslaved the Egyptians used their labor to build many amazing structures, including the pyramids. Show pictures of Egyptian pyramids or images online. Discuss what the pyramids were used for and how much hard work the Hebrews had to do.

Step 3. Give each child 1 sheet of construction paper, a set of pyramid strips, and a glue stick. Instruct learners to build their pyramid by gluing the strips in order of longest to shortest, working their way up.

Step 4. Give children cotton balls and crayons or markers. Instruct them to decorate their pyramid and the sky. They can add clouds with the cotton, draw Hebrews working on the pyramid, or animals to decorate their pyramid picture.
