God Made the Animals Bible Lesson

OT01L3 CroppedThis is a Bible lesson about God’s creation of the world. It is the third of five lessons related to creation and the early chapters of Genesis. The other lessons are 1) God Made the World, 2) God Made the Plants, 4) God Made People, and 5) People Disobeyed God.

Lesson Title: God Made the Animals

Bible Text: Genesis 1:20-25; 2:18-19

Learning Objective: To help the children understand that God created animals to fill the world and make it a better place for people to live.

The Lead

Choose a free, printable activity from the list of related Bible activities that will be good to open the lesson. As children complete the activity, explain that today’s lesson is from Genesis 1 and is about God creating the animals. Use the chosen activity to introduce the Bible story.

Read the story from the Bible or invite a child to read the story aloud. Depending on the age and maturity of your kids, you may want simply to tell the story in your own words.

The Lesson

Select an appropriate number of printable activities from the list of related Bible activities and use them to engage your kids in the story. As they work on the activities, emphasize the following truths:

  • God created the animals to make the world a better place for people. Just imagine a world without any animals!
  • The existence of animals will remind us that people are different than all other creation. It’s easy to look at any animal and tell quickly that they are different from people.
  • The God of the Bible is a wonderfully good God who gives us good things because He loves us.

The Landing

Help children understand that animals are a great reminder that God loves us and wanted us to live in a wonderful world with wonderful animals. Animals also remind us that God loves us and we are special to Him because animals are different from us. As the teacher, be aware that the first lesson in this series focused on God’s greatness and worthiness. The second lesson was focused on God’s goodness toward us as demonstrated by His provision of food for us. This lesson builds on the idea that creation demonstrates God’s goodness toward us, but it also begins to reveal that people were created special and are different from all other aspects of creation. The next lesson will underscore this truth even more.
