God Protected Baby Moses Bible Lesson for Kids

OT06L1 CroppedThis is a Bible lesson about God’s protection of Moses when he was a baby. It is the first of five lessons related to Moses and the deliverance of Israel from Egyptian slavery. The other lessons are 2) God Called Moses, 3) God Showed His Power to Pharaoh, 4) God Led His People, and 5) God Gave Moses the Ten Commandments. This lesson can help kids see that God has a plan for them and that He can be trusted to accomplish His plan in their lives.

Lesson Title: God Protected Baby Moses

Bible Text: Exodus 1; 2:1-10

Learning Objective: To help the children understand that God has a plan for each person.

The Lead

Choose a free, printable activity from the list of related Bible activities that will be good to open the lesson. As children complete the activity, explain that today’s lesson is from Exodus and is about God’s protection of baby Moses. Use the chosen activity to introduce the Bible story.

Read the story from the Bible or invite a child to read the story aloud. Depending on the age and maturity of your kids, you may want simply to tell the story in your own words.

The Lesson

Select an appropriate number of printable activities from the list of related Bible activities and use them to engage your kids in the story. As they work on the activities, emphasize the following truths:

  • God has a plan for each person.
  • God is able to protect us and fulfill His plan for us.
  • God may not always act the way we want or think He should, but He is still working to accomplish His plan for us, even when we don’t understand it. (This truth may be more appropriate for older kids, but it’s important to keep in mind because while God did protect baby Moses, there were many other babies killed by Pharaoh. God was still in control in each circumstance.)

The Landing

Help the children understand that we should each trust God and seek to accomplish God’s plan for our lives. Be aware that future lessons will focus on God’s goodness toward us that is demonstrated in creation. Today’s story is more focused on God’s greatness and worthiness.
