God Called Moses Bible Lesson for Kids
This is a simple Bible lesson about God speaking to Moses in a burning bush. It is one of five lessons related to Moses. The other lessons are 1) God Protected Baby Moses, 3) God Showed His Power to Pharaoh, 4) God Led His People, and 5) God Gave Moses the Ten Commandments.

Bible Text: Exodus 3:1-17; 4:1-5, 18-20
Learning Objective: To help children understand that God calls each of us to follow Him and do His will.
The Lead
Choose a free, printable activity from the list of related Bible activities that will be good to open the lesson. As children complete the activity, explain that today’s lesson is from Exodus 3 and 4 and is about when God spoke to Moses through burning bush. Use the chosen activity to introduce the Bible story.
Read the story from the Bible or invite a child to read the story aloud. Depending on the age and maturity of your kids, you may want simply to tell the story in your own words.
The Lesson
Select an appropriate number of printable activities from the list of related Bible activities and use them to engage your kids in the story. As they work on the activities, emphasize the following truths:
- God still speaks to people today, but in different ways. He speaks primarily through the Bible, but can also speak through the church and other people.
- God calls each of us to honor Him and do what He asks us to do. No matter how old we are, God has things He wants us to do and we should be willing to do them.
- Depending on the maturity of your kids, help them understand that God doesn’t usually speak as dramatically as He did with Moses, but He still reveals Himself just as certainly as He did back then.
- It’s in this story that God reveals His name (Yahweh) to Moses. You may want to use this opportunity to help your kids know that God’s name is Yahweh (Jehovah).
The Landing
Help children understand that God calls each of us to follow Him and do His will, but we have to be willing to obey.
As the teacher, be aware that the first lesson in this series focused on God’s plan for each person and His ability to accomplish His plan for us. This lesson focuses on God’s ability to speak to us today and our need to be obedient to whatever God desires us to do.
