God Led His People Bible Lesson for Kids

OT06L4 CroppedThis is a Bible lesson about God leading the people of Israel from slavery under Egypt to freedom. It is one of five lessons related to Moses. The other lessons are 1) God Protected Baby Moses, 2) God Called Moses, 3) God Showed His Power to Pharaoh, and 5) God Gave Moses the Ten Commandments.

Lesson Title: God Led His People

Bible Text: Exodus 13:17-22; 14:1-31; 15:1

Learning Objective: To help children understand that God (Yahweh) is able to deliver us from any problem and will save us from our sins if we will trust in Jesus.

The Lead

Choose a free, printable activity from the list of related Bible activities that will be good to open the lesson. As children complete the activity, explain that today’s lesson is from Exodus 13–15 and is about when God delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt and led them into freedom. Use the chosen activity to introduce the Bible story.

Read the story from the Bible or invite a child to read the story aloud. Depending on the age and maturity of your kids, you may want simply to tell the story in your own words.

The Lesson

Select an appropriate number of printable activities from the list of related Bible activities and use them to engage your kids in the story. As they work on the activities, emphasize the following truths:

  • God is able to deliver us from any problem and lead us in every part of our lives.
  • God is able to save us from our sins if we will trust in Jesus. Use your discretion as the teacher to determine if a child (or your group of children) is ready to talk about salvation. Younger children may not be ready for this point.
  • Depending on the maturity of your kids, help them understand that sometimes God delivers us from difficult circumstances and sometimes He doesn’t. He will always save us from our sin when we place our faith in Jesus. That is the greatest miracle of all, but He will often use challenging circumstances in our lives to help us grow and develop character.

The Landing

Help children understand that just as God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt, He is able to deliver us from our problems. He is especially able to save us.

As the teacher, be aware that the first lesson in this series focused on God’s plan for each person and His ability to accomplish His plan for us. The second lesson focused on God’s call to Moses and our need to be obedient to whatever God desires us to do. The third lesson emphasized God’s power over all other powers. This lesson underscores God’s ability to save us and lead us.
