Jesus Began the Church Bible Craft

The biblical story is incomplete without an awareness of the church and its place in God’s plan. The Bible teaches that the church is the Bride of Christ. In Acts we learn that Jesus began the church in a miraculous way. This interactive craft will help your kids understand how the church began.

Note: This free craft is also available as a downloadable PDF.

Bible Story: Jesus Began the Church

Bible Text: Acts 1:4-9; 2:1-47

Supplies List:

  • Envelopes
  • Craft sticks
  • Crayons or markers
  • Glue
  • Construction paper

Instructions:

Step 1. Give each child three or four craft sticks and instruct them to color and/or decorate the craft sticks to become the members of their “church.” Remind children that although the church is a building, the real church is made up of people. Even if there were no building to meet in, the people of God could meet anywhere and still be a church. A church is like a family made up of people who love God and love each other.

Step 2. Give the kids an envelope and a piece of construction paper. Instruct students to glue the envelope to the paper with the opening side face out. Have the children give the church a steeple and doors. Remind children that God has blessed them with a beautiful church building as well as a loving church family. This is a good time to discuss missions and how there are many church families around the world who do not have a good church building. We should pray for these churches and help when we can.

Step 3. Now your kids can put the members of their church inside the pocket to enjoy the services. Remind children that when the people of God gather in the church of God it is a very special time and a very special blessing. Jesus began the church so that we could always have this special blessing.
