The story of creation is foundational to a child’s faith and will help prepare them for a personal relationship with Jesus when they are ready. The story of creation will help children understand that the God of the Bible is the only Creator and sovereign Lord of the universe and all of creation. Creation itself is a demonstration of God’s great love for people. Kids will learn that God created people in His image and they are, therefore, special and valuable to Him. Finally, children will discover that Adam and Eve sinned because they didn’t trust in God’s goodness.

Bible Lessons and Activities Related to Creation

The story of creation is a rich and important section of the Bible. We have grouped our simple Bible lessons and activities under the following lesson titles. Each lesson title is followed by a description of the lesson and links to the lesson itself. If you prefer, you can click here to see all Bible lesson activities (sermons, coloring pages, and more) related to the story of creation.

God made the World – God’s first step in creation was forming the world and other elements in the universe. This lesson underscores God’s creative power and His lordship over all of creation and the universe. Related activities can be found here.

God Made the Plants – God did not create a barren planet for us. Rather, He created a beautiful place with living plants that provide beauty, shelter, and food for us. Creation is an amazing expression of God’s extravagant love toward people. Related activities can be found here.

God Made the Animals – God has created a wonderfully complex ecosystem for us that grows while also providing checks and balances. Within creation God placed animals that participate in and support the ecosystem. This ecosystem provides a beautiful and sustaining home for people. The design of this home we call earth and the universe demonstrates God’s power and love all at once. Related activities can be found here.

God Made People – All of God’s creative activity has been in preparing a “good” place for humanity, His crowning act of creation. Now God is creating people in His image. Unlike the rest of creation, people were created in God’s image. That means we are special and valuable to God, more valuable than any other part of creation. Related activities can be found here.

People Disobeyed God – The story of the Fall is included under creation because the story of Adam and Eve’s sin as found in Genesis 3 is designed to show that their sin is the result of failing to trust God would provide what is good. Even though creation itself shows God’s great power and love for them, Adam and Eve still chose to doubt God and trust a tree. The lesson can also be included in the series of lesson on Noah. Related activities can be found here.
